Domain Appraisals? Don't Waste Your Money.
The problem with domain appraisals is that there are no standards in the industry. A domain appraiser simply tells you what he thinks the domain is worth. Nothing more. His opinion is just that ~ an opinion. Different appraisers will evaluate your domain differently. One might say your domain is worth $10,000 ; another one might laugh at your name and say it's worth no more than $50. Yes, appraisals can differ by that much!

The truth is: Domain appraisals do nothing for your domain names. It does not make your domains more sell-able, nor it does it suddenly cause your domains to be more valuable just because someone says it is.

Some appraisal companies tell you what you want to hear about your domain name so that you will come back to pay for more appraisals and get your ego further inflated by the nice things they tell you.

What's worse is that there are a number of domain appraisal scams online. Be wary. This has been going on for years and still thriving, unfortunately. This is their modus operandi: You receive an email from some "potential" buyer expressing interest in your domain name. They carefully word their email to make it sound like they're really close to buying your domain. The only thing they need before making the decision is: a paid appraisal from 'XYZ Domain Evaluation Services'.

If you get such an email, run far away. If you make the mistake of thinking this may be real and pay for the appraisal, you can say bye-bye to your money and bye-bye to the "buyer." All he wanted was for you to pay for the appraisal. You see, XYZ is his company. Taking your money, he moves on to his next victim.

Just remember this: A genuine buyer will NEVER insist on a domain appraisal. In fact an appraisal would mean nothing to him. If a real buyer doesn't like your domain, he is not going to change his mind even if some appraiser says that your domain is worth a million bucks.

So, when it comes to domain appraisals, I say, keep your credit card in your wallet.
