Some Basics About Expired Domain Names
| This article is in response to a couple of questions I received about what exactly is an expired domain and how to make use of such domain names in business and for profit. For some of you, this is probably very basic information, but for others, especially newbies, I hope it will be helpful. Here we go..... A domain name represents one or more IP addresses, which are used in URLs to identify particular web pages on the world wide web. Usually, this would consist of a designed website with links on search engines, contain business information, carry related advertisements and have reciprocal links to other websites. The domain of this blog, VOHIO.com, for example, embodies a number of IP addresses. When you acquire a new domain name, you pay for its registration and you have to renew its license annually. If you do not do so, the domain name expires and becomes available for others to purchase. Unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on how you look at it), sometimes domain owners miss renewing their domain names due to various factors. Perhaps, the owner failed to received the expiration notice reminder from the registrar or he or she may have run out of money to continue promoting the site or his interest and enthusiasm to continue managing the site may have waned. An expired domain name is an interesting prospect to many webmasters. Firstly, the online traffic generated by such a domain comes as an inexpensive opportunity to cross-sell a new website and its services. Secondly, once acquired, the webmaster has the option to either maintain the website as it used to be, or redirect the expected visitors to one of his own existing websites. Basically, the use of the expired domain name takes advantage of the expired domain's link popularity, back links to it from other websites, page rank status and also all listings it already has in the search engines. By investing in an expired domain name, savvy webmasters are finding out that they not only obtain the potential customers of the expired domain but also benefit from saving time, effort and the costs related to undertaking an extensive promotion of a site just to get a substantial share of online traffic. Domain speculators, (I prefer to call them entrepreneurs), are likewise drawn to buying expired domain names to make money. The way they do it is: they purchase popular expired domain names and resell those for a profit. There, I hope that was useful. If anyone would like to use this article on their own website, ezine, blog or ebook, feel free to do so but please be sure to copy the article in its entirety including this portion with a live link back to Vohio.com. Thank you. Labels: expired domain names |
